Reporting directly to the senior sales manager, this position is responsible for the overall management and strategic direction of the dealership’s purchasing function, either independently or in collaboration with a co-manager. The role carries full responsibility for planning, directing, and controlling purchasing activities to ensure the department meets its operational, financial, and inventory objectives. While the acquisition of specific vehicles is a core activity, the position is fundamentally accountable for establishing purchasing strategy, overseeing execution, and ensuring the overall performance and success of the function. These management responsibilities are exercised with a high degree of autonomy and without day-to-day supervision, with accountability focused on departmental outcomes and business results

JOB DUTIES. The following duties will be performed in this position:

  • Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate the sourcing and acquisition of pre-owned vehicle inventory through auctions, trade-ins, private sales, and digital platforms to meet organizational demand and profitability targets
  • Develop and implement purchasing policies, sourcing strategies, and approval thresholds governing inventory acquisitions to ensure consistent, cost-effective procurement practices
  • Manage and control the inventory purchasing budget, including forecasting acquisition needs, monitoring expenditures, and optimizing cost efficiency in line with dealership financial objectives
  • Oversee the use of automotive market intelligence tools (e.g., vAuto, CARFAX, Drive AI) to evaluate pricing, assess market conditions, and support data-driven purchasing decisions
  • Direct the design and execution of targeted vehicle acquisition campaigns (email, SMS, and digital outreach), and evaluate performance metrics to ensure alignment with purchasing goals and return expectations
  • Identify, evaluate, and maintain supply channels, including auctions, online marketplaces, and direct sellers, to ensure consistent access to high-quality inventory
  • Lead negotiations and oversee the appraisal and purchase of vehicles, ensuring favorable contract terms, competitive pricing, and compliance with organizational purchasing standards
  • Establish and enforce internal purchasing procedures to ensure all acquisitions comply with dealership policies, provincial regulations, and documentation requirements
  • Coordinate with finance and accounting departments to review and process purchase transactions, including loan payouts, lien settlements, and customer equity disbursements
  • Monitor market trends, inventory performance, pricing fluctuations, and inventory aging to continuously evaluate and adjust purchasing strategies in support of business performance objectives

REQUIREMENTS. The successful applicant will possess, at a minimum, the following skills and experience:

  • Completion of secondary school is required.
  • A minimum of two years of progressive experience in purchasing within the automobile industry is required.
  • Familiarity with Honda products is an asset.
  • Certification from Vehicle Safety Authority (VSA) is required.

We would like to thank you for your interest in this position. However, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
